The Detroit Red Wings didn't lose ground to the Washington Capitals in the Eastern Conference wildcard race because the Caps lost, too. The Detroit Red Wings' only good fortune came when their Eastern Conference rivals, the Washington Capitals, fell to the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-1 and the Philadelphia Flyers, lost 4-1 to the Montreal Canadiens. The Flyers are currently in third place in the Metropolitan Division and hold a one-point lead over Detroit. If Washington passes Philadelphia for third, they will compete with Detroit for a wildcard position. The Red Wings have only seven remaining games remaining. The Grand Rapids Griffins have qualified for the playoffs in the American Hockey League for the first time since 2019. The 2023 first-rounder Axel Sandin Pellikka scored an overtime goal in the Swedish Hockey League playoffs. The move for Philadelphia's goalie Ivan Fedotov could allow him to join the Flyers.
