RALEIGH, NC -- In the final few weeks of the regular season, the Detroit Red Wings are hoping to steal a win against one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference, the Carolina Hurricanes.

This is the third game of the five-game road trip for the Red Wings. It has not quite gone according to plan, as they have lost a couple of close games over the past week. After falling 1-0 to the Nashville Predators last Saturday, Detroit squandered a lead, before losing in overtime to the Washington Capitals on Tuesday.

At this stage of the season, the Wings need to find a way to get two points in road games. They are just 15-18-2 away from home this season, losing seven consecutive away matchups. Detroit comes into Thursday two points behind the Caps for the last Wild Card spot in the East. They are also fifth in the Atlantic Division, 10 points behind the third-place Toronto Maple Leafs.

While they have had a rotating cast of characters between the pipes, the Hurricanes have been one of the most consistent teams in the league. With wins in six of their last eight games, Carolina is second in the Metropolitan Division, three points behind the league-leading New York Rangers.

The road woes for the Red Wings will be put to the test, as the Canes are 24-9-4 in Raleigh thus far.

This will be the third and final meeting of the season between the Hurricanes and Red Wings. Carolina has won the first two matchups, including the first encounter at PNC Arena back in January.
