DETROIT — A popular music bar in Detroit's Corktown neighborhood is not closing down, but rather reopening under a new name with a new owner, according to a WDET report.
The UFO Factory, which was thought to be closing down, will actually stay open as UFO Bar under the ownership of Roula David, who currently owns Spot Lite on Detroit's east side, according to the report. David told the news station that the bar should reopen by the end of July, and that much of the bar's tradition will stay the same, including the music bookings and residencies at the venue.
Gourmet hot dogs will also be served at the bar, but under a food truck that operates at Spot Lite, according to the report. The UFO Factory, located on Trumbull Avenue across from the old Tiger Stadium, announced on social media earlier this month that it was shutting down on June 15, though the owners indicated that something was planned for the venue.
The bar is hosting a farewell event under its current ownership on Saturday with Day Residue, Ultimate Ovation and Comfort Cure scheduled to perform.
