The Beach is back in the middle of a Michigan city complete with beach parties
The urban beach features an outdoor bar and restaurant as well as bands and DJs performing beachside throughout the summer. The Beach at Campus Martius Park in downtown Detroit is now open for the season, offering an outdoor bar and restaurant, along with beach parties all summer long. The first Beach Party will take place on June 13, themed as Pride, featuring giveaways, specialty drinks and samplings from Wana Brands and Capital One Café. The Beach Parties will also feature a theme like Yacht Rock, Country Roots and Girls Night Out. The free outdoor movie series returns on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. Movie Nights in the D will feature live entertainment before select movie screenings and giveaways. The Downtown Street Eats foot truck rally continues with a rotating lineup of food trucks at Cadillac Square and Woodward Esplanade. Over at Capitol Park, Citizen Yoga will offer free yoga sessions and Grand Circus Park hosts themed events for dogs.

DETROIT - Life’s a beach at this urban oasis located right in the heart of downtown Detroit, surrounded by skyscrapers. The Beach at Campus Martius Park is now open for the season and features an outdoor bar and restaurant along with beach parties all summer long.
You can sink your feet right into some of the 400,000 pounds of sand and relax in one of the many comfortable beach chairs, build sand castles or sip on a cocktail at this urban beach which first opened a few years ago at the top-ranked public square in the country.
BrisBar, open 11am - 9pm Sunday - Wednesday and until 11pm Thursday - Saturday, offers specialty cocktails and Happy Hour specials along with live entertainment and a full food menu.
The Beach Parties will take place on the second Thursday each month from 4pm to 9pm and feature a different theme, like Yacht Rock, Country Roots and Girls Night Out.
The first Beach Party is this Thursday, June 13. The theme is Pride. The Beach Party will feature giveaways, specialty drinks and samplings, plus additional goodies from Wana Brands and Capital One Café. In partnership with Slay, there will also be free Drag Queen Bing hosted by Kourtney Castro beginning at 7 p.m. DJ Myint will close out the night with live music.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a donation of personal care items, such as toothpaste, soap and shampoo to support the Ruth Ellis Center, an organization which provides services for LGBTQ+ youth, particularly minority youth and those experiencing homelessness.
The free outdoor movie series returns on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. Just BYO chair or blanket and settle in on the lawn for a movie on the big screen at Campus Martius Park.
Movies being show this summer are: “The Super Mario Bros (G),” “The Fifth Element (PG-13),” “Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (PG-13),” “Kung Fu Panda (G),” “Barbie (PG-13)” and a 65th anniversary showing of “Some Like It Hot (PG-13).”
Arrive early as Movie Nights in the D will feature live entertainment before select movie screenings and giveaways. Popcorn will be available for purchase from Poppin Top Hat Popcorn. Movies in the D kicks off on Wednesday, June 19 with “The Color Purple” (PG-13).
Summer Markets return next door at Cadillac Square from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. three days a week: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. They begin yesterday, June 11.
There will be a number of small businesses, artisans and other vendors selling handmade accessories, desserts and beauty products. Some of the participating businesses include Brownie Dr., Preva Body, Detroit Bracelet, Staten Sweets and Detroitorant.
Now in its 12th season Downtown Street Eats foot truck rally continues with a rotating lineup of more than 80 food trucks at Cadillac Square and the Woodward Esplanade weekdays from 11am - 3pm and during special events.
Over at Capitol Park, Citizen Yoga will offer free yoga sessions Wednesdays at 6 p.m. and Sundays at 7 p.m. At Campus Martius Park, residents and visitors can participate in City Glow Yoga sessions for free. A 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. class on the second and fourth Monday of the month starting in June will be offered.
Grand Circus Park hosts a number of monthly themed events on Saturdays for the dogs in your life, like the “Bones and Cones” ice cream social, “Wild Western Roundup,” “Tailgate Paw-ty” and “Howl-O-Ween.” At each event, musical entertainment by a DJ is provided and all attendees receive a doggie goodie bag courtesy of Premier Pet Supply.
