Grande Ballroom in Detroit - Where Rock Legends Played
The Grande Ballroom in Detroit has so much history. Sadly, when it's rock and roll past ended, the building went downhill. The Grande Ballroom in Detroit, where rock legends such as Led Zeppelin and the MC5 played, has been slowly falling apart since the early 1960s. The ballroom was transformed into a major venue by Detroit radio personality Russ Gibb, who reopened it as a psychedelic rock venue. The building quickly became home to Detroit rock acts like the MCFive, the Stooges, SRC, the Frost, and the Rationals. After the music stopped, the building deteriorated and was closed due to water damage and vandalism. In 2018, the Grande was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, but its future remains uncertain.
