The total number of votes cast in the tribal chairman race was 1,155 votes for Fairbanks and 909 votes for Tibbett. Fairbanks performed well in Naytahwaush and Rice Lake, winning in Mahnomen, Pine Point and Minneapolis.

DETROIT LAKES - White Earth Tribal Chairman Michael Fairbanks defeated challenger Eugene "Umsy" Tibbetts to win another four-year term in office on Tuesday.

The vote total was 56% to 44%, according to unofficial results released Tuesday evening.

Also in the White Earth General election on Tuesday, challenger Laura Lee (Thompson) Erickson defeated Tribal Council member Cheryl "Annie' Jackson in the District 3 committeeman race. The vote total in that race was 59% to 41%.

The total number of votes cast in the tribal chairman race was 1,155 votes for Fairbanks and 909 votes for Tibbetts.

Fairbanks did especially well in Naytahwaush and Rice Lake, won in Mahnomen, Pine Point and Minneapolis, and more than doubled Tibbetts' votes in Cass Lake and the in-person absentee vote.
