Detroit — A Wayne County Juvenile Court judge was cited Saturday for attempting to bring a firearm into the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport checkpoint, an airport spokesman said.
Third Circuit Court Judge Cylenthia LaToye Miller brought the gun into the airport Saturday, and was ticketed and released, Wayne County Airport Authority Matt Morawski said.
"I can confirm that the judge was cited and released after bringing a gun to the airport," Morawski said.
A phone call to the judge's chambers was not returned. Miller's attorney Todd Perkins was in court and did not immediately return a phone call.
"The Third Judicial Circuit of Michigan is aware of the recent incident involving Judge Miller," court spokesman Michael Scott said in a statement. "As with any case that is assigned to our court, or involves anyone related to our court, we do not discuss specific information and will let the legal process play out."
WWJ (950) AM reported that Transportation Security Agency agents found a loaded .380 Smith & Wesson pistol inside Miller's purse as she was traveling through a security checkpoint.
Miller was a 36th District Court judge from 2006 until Gov. Gretchen Whitmer appointed her to the Third Circuit Court bench in 2019. She recently presided over the family court's operations.
