Families grieving the loss of a child receive comfort, prayers at annual Mass
Cathedral’s memorial Mass helps families honor, remember and pray for children lost during pregnancy or infancy Couples and families from across the Archdiocese of Detroit gathered for a special Mass at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament on Oct. 25, the final Sunday of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Month, to remember and honor children lost during pregnancy or infancy. The Mass was also offered to offer blessing and prayers for couples hoping to conceive in the future. Families could write their children's names in the Book of Innocents, which remains permanently in the cathedral's narthex and is prayed for every month and included in All Souls Day liturgies. Fr. J. Mech, rector of the Cathedral, shared his mother's experience with the loss of three children and emphasized the importance of the Church's care being made known to families of a child.
