Free events and activities this coming week in the Heartland Lakes area. Artist Dawn Rossbach will lead a free, side-by-side drawing class at the Armory Arts and Events Center in April 2024. The class will be divided between beginners and experienced drawers, with only beverages in lidded containers allowed in the studio. The U.S. Air Force Concert Band and Singing Sergeants will perform a concert at 3 p.m. at the Bemidji High School Performing Arts Center, as part of their Upper Midwest tour. Local leaders and experts will discuss the topic of "The New 'Alcohol': THC-Infused Drinks" at Northwoods Bank in Park Rapids. The Hubbard County Republicans will meet at 7 pm.

Artist Dawn Rossbach will lead a free, side-by-side drawing class from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Armory Arts and Events Center. Beginners and experienced drawers will work side by side, learning the fundamentals and exploring new methods. Note, only beverages in lidded containers are allowed in the studio.
The U.S. Air Force Concert Band and Singing Sergeants will perform a concert at 3 p.m. at the Bemidji High School Performing Arts Center, part of their Upper Midwest tour. Hubbard County DFL members are invited to their monthly meeting, with discussion of trending topics at 6 p.m. in the Park Rapids Area Library basement meeting room and a business meeting at 7 p.m. Contact [email protected] for information.
Hubbard County Republicans meet at 7 p.m. at Abide Vineyard Church, 17765 State Hwy. 34, east of Park Rapids. Social hour begins at 6:30 p.m.
Adventures in Lifelong Learning presents “The Shoeshine Boys of Vietnam” at the Bemidji Eagles club. Riki Scheela was in Vietnam in 1998. She saw a boy shivering in the cold winter and took him to purchase a jacket. Like magic, five more boys showed up. She became close to these “shoeshine boys,” and 20 years later she found them turned into men. They wanted Riki to meet their families. She describes this as one of the most meaningful and profound experiences of her life. Refreshments will be offered at 9:30 a.m. with the program from 10 to 11 a.m. and questions and answers until 11:30 a.m. For more information, email [email protected].
Join local leaders and experts for a coffee talk from 10 to 11 a.m. at Northwoods Bank in Park Rapids. The topic is “The New ‘Alcohol’: THC-Infused Drinks.” There will be a short presentation followed by questions and conversation, jointly organized by Hubbard in Prevention, CHI St. Joseph’s Health Community Health, Stellher Human Services, Family Safety Network, Kinship of Park Rapids and Park Rapids Area Schools.
